Greg Abbott, Republican, runs an ad about "a Texas that defunds the police." In April, Houston's mayor, John Whitmire, Democrat, said the state told his city it was withdrawing $110 million in public safety grants. The Texas Tribune reported the notice came from Greg Abbott's office.
