In 2016, Ken Paxton, Republican Attorney General of Texas, called a Massachusetts subpoena for Exxon a "government witch-hunt." In 2022, a process server came to his own home with a subpoena. According to the server's sworn affidavit, Paxton ran back into the house, then left minutes later in a truck driven by his wife. Paxton's version: the server "charged toward me. I perceived this person to be a threat."
